Failure to wear an appropriate face covering is at the top of the list of public health violation notices issued between the 21st and 26th of this month.

Police said that of the 321 PHINs issued, 91 were linked to not wearing a face mask, which includes 45 reservations in the West Division, 32 in the South, nine in the North and five in the East Division.

He says of the 321 PHINs issued, 171 were issued in the West Division, 75 in the South, 39 in the East and 36 in the North Division.

Police say social gatherings continue to be a concern with 82 bookings recorded over the five days with 49 cases in the West Division, 28 in the East and five in the South.

Qiliho adds that the curfew violation was the third highest with 76 recorded cases and that includes 50 reservations in the West Division, 18 in the south, three in the east and one in the north.

28 reservations were also made for non-compliance with orders relating to the consumption of kava and alcohol.

Police also issued 26 PHINs for violating the 2-meter physical distance, all registered in the North Division.

Six reservations were made for failure to maintain 50 percent capacity in a PSV with four cases in the West and two in the South Division.

Officers also made four reservations in the East Division for failing to meet restrictions on entering a containment zone.

The Police Commissioner reiterated that the changes in the COVID-19 situation have seen the Ministry of Health managing outbreaks in several locations across Fiji and this should be of concern to all Fijians.

Police are urging the public to be responsible and play their part in stopping the spread of the virus by respecting the COVID-19 restrictions and safety measures in place.
