UPDATE 1 – Police investigate homicide in St. Catharines

The Niagara Regional Police Homicide Unit continues to investigate a homicide that occurred Sunday, June 12, 2020 at the intersection of Pleasant Avenue and Lake Street in the St. Catharines neighborhood.

Detectives remain in the area looking for information related to this incident.

The deceased victim in this case has been identified as a 33-year-old man. The relatives of the deceased have been notified and at the request of his family, no other information concerning his identity is communicated by the police.

The second victim in this case, a 32-year-old man, suffered life-threatening injuries. The third victim, a 34-year-old woman, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and is recovering.

The ongoing investigation has determined that the victims and suspects attended a social gathering at a residence on Pleasant Avenue just prior to the shooting.

The relationship between the victims and the suspect(s) and the events leading up to the shooting are still part of the ongoing investigation.

ORIGINAL RELEASE – June 12, 2022

On Sunday, June 12, 2022, at approximately 3:40 a.m., uniformed officers from District 1 (St. Catharines) responded to the Pleasant Avenue and Lake Street area in the City of St. Catharines to report a shooting.

Upon arrival, officers discovered three victims as a result of this incident. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other victims were taken to hospital. The second victim was seriously injured and was taken to an out of town hospital for treatment. The third victim is currently being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The Niagara Regional Police Service Homicide Unit has taken control of this investigation and is appealing to any witnesses or anyone in the area with a dash cam or surveillance footage to contact police at about this incident.

The area where this incident occurred has been closed to traffic while officers investigate and deal with the scene.

This investigation is in its early stages and no further information is released at this time.
