UP election: Eye on female voters, BJP brings in activists from other states, launches ‘kamal kitty club’


As Assembly election in Uttar Pradesh enters crucial phase, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) focuses on women voters with prominent faces from Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka and Rajasthan who are campaigning for the saffron camp.

The first two phases of the UP polls saw increased numbers of women showing up to exercise their right to vote on Election Day. Political parties are now making every effort to reach them by carrying out door-to-door campaigns.

The BJP fielded a total of seven co-voters in charge for the high-stakes election in Uttar Pradesh, three of whom are women leaders, according to a report by Live Hindustan.

An army of women

The BJP launched the “kamal kitty club” to attract women voters on the model of kitty parties (social gatherings of women). The saffron camp has hired “pravasi” women who have been going door to door since February 10 to talk to women voters.

The ‘kamal kitty club’ must last 15 days. According to the ANI news agency, each pravasi worker is campaigning for candidates in five assembly seats in Lucknow.

“Whenever we go to meet women, they say they are satisfied with the way women are treated here with respect since the BJP formed the government here. Moreover, they are satisfied with the programs initiated and implemented. work for them,” Sita Negi, Nagar Adhyask, BJP Mahila Morcha from Lucknow told ANI.

Richa Vasisht of BJP Women’s Wing in Haryana said, “My duty is at 172 Uttar Vidhan sabha. Women show up in large numbers on polling days and it shows what the BJP government has done. Wherever we go, women welcome us. with warmth.”

Meanwhile, Anjani Srivastava of the BJP is pitted against Armaan Khan of the Samajwadi party in the Lucknow West Assembly constituency.

Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh began on February 10 and are being held in seven phases. The third phase of the UP polls will take place on February 20.
