Romulus school board holds sudden special meeting on Wednesday – The News Herald

With emotions already running high over the decision of four Romulus school board members to put its principal on paid leave, a special meeting has suddenly been called.

The special meeting is set for 10 a.m. on October 20 at Romulus High School, 9650 Wayne Road.

According to the notice, released Tuesday afternoon in time to be in compliance with Michigan’s Open Meetings Act, the topics for discussion “could include” an advisory services / trade office agreement, the Acting Superintendent’s contract, approving meeting minutes and Chromebook purchases.

The last two regular council meetings have been contiguous, with residents expressing their anger at Dr Benjamin Edmondson, the superintendent of schools, suspended after a surprise resolution was read and then approved by a 4-3 vote.

Although Debi Pyles, chairman of the board, said the leave was to last two weeks, it appears to be not a true estimate. This time has come and gone.

Sean McNatt is the acting superintendent and the majority of the council may seek to extend his stay in the district.

Meanwhile, the district continues to pay Edmondson and McNatt, as well as other consultants to review the finances of the district.

According to Pyles, Edmondson is not the subject of the investigation, leaving many people wondering why he is on leave at the time and not allowed to do his job.

Several residents said they were aware the meeting was being held at a time when most people are at work and may not be able to attend.
